Our Area

Trails and Grounds

Beautiful and diverse, the grounds around are a nature-lover’s paradise.

On our parcel (about 60 acres) of Mauch Chunk Lake Park property, you’ll find trails to explore, butterfly and bird gardens, and a (winter only) bird feeding station. CCEEC is an officially registered National Wildlife Federation “Backyard Habitat” example area. The one area not to be missed is the elevated boardwalk trail, which is not only accessible by all who visit, but best of all, takes visitors past all of our non-releasable birds of prey.

Also available for visitors’ use are a picnic pavilion, and Clivus Multrum (waterless composting restroom).
The area surrounding CCEEC contains many different habitat areas including meadows, deciduous forest, wetland, lake, streams, agricultural fields and associated transition areas. This diversity of habitat makes for incredible wildlife watching opportunities. Foxes (red and gray), coyotes, turkeys, weasels, squirrels, chipmunks, bears, and deer all call the grounds around CCEEC home. And let’s not forget the oh-so-numerous species of songbirds and raptors found in these areas too.

The trails and grounds at CCEEC are open to the public, free of charge, from dawn until dusk, 365 days a year.

Mauch Chunk Lake Park

Located on the outskirts of historical Jim Thorpe, this 2300-acre county park is perfect for that family getaway. Whether you are visiting the park for a day, or camping for a week, MCLP has much to offer.

Swim, paddle, row, go fishing, or simply enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature while lounging on the clean sandy beach. Hike, bike, or ski the scenic and historic switchback gravity railroad trail which runs right through the park.
